The Greek island of Mykonos has been described as having a crazy nightlife that is very diverse.

This is certainly true when compared to some of the other nearby islands.  In fact, Mykonos has been called the Greek capital of homosexuality, and it has many gay and lesbian beaches, nightclubs, and hotels.

This doesn’t mean that these places aren’t straight friendly.  Quite the opposite—the people of Mykonos are accepting of everyone no matter what their lifestyle, and they’re always ready to party.

The atmosphere on Mykonos is one in which you don’t need to hide your sexuality.  No one will look twice at two men or two women walking down the street holding hands, and it’s perfectly acceptable to show a little affection in public.  Because of this, Mykonos is one of the most popular destinations for gay travelers, and you’re sure to see other gay couples no matter where you go.  There’s no need to hide your true self here.

Heading from Greece over to Mykonos, you’ll immediately notice the blue waters and the golden sandy beaches as you travel.  While all of the beaches on the island are gay friendly, there is one particular beach that is especially popular with gay guys and girls.  It’s called Super Paradise, and it’s located next to the popular Paradise beach.  Super Paradise is a little difficult to reach by vehicle, but you can get there via taxi-boat.  There’s also a bus stop that is nearby.

Super Paradise is a clothing optional beach, so you may not want to take your young children there.  However, this popular beach becomes a happening nightclub once the sun goes down.  The music starts early in the day, and by sunset, people are dancing around the pool and at the bar.  Sexuality dominates this dance, of course, but that doesn’t mean everyone is just looking for sex.  People are here to have a good time, and if you do meet someone, so much the better.

Another popular gay beach is Elia.  This golden beach is almost exclusively a nudist beach, but it’s usually less crowded than Super Paradise.  It doesn’t have the big nightly dance parties like Super Paradise, but it is a very nice beach for resting and relaxing.  It’s the last stop for many of the water taxis out of Platis Gialos.  There’s a bar located at Elia, and the waiters will bring your drinks right out to your deckchair.  Many visitors to Elia rank it as one of the best beaches anywhere, especially if you want a calmer, less crowded beach.  On the downside, Elia does tend to be a little more expensive in regards to drinks, renting things, etc.

If you’re looking for some hotels that are gay friendly or won’t think twice about a man reserving a room with another man and only one bed, you’ll find a few gay exclusive hotels.

Of course, shopping is an activity many gay tourists like to engage in.  There are a number of different shopping areas in Mykonos.  You’ll find everything from expensive department stores to traditional little art galleries.  It all depends on what you want to buy.  You can stop by Luisa Beach for some shopping, then get a massage or a manicure/pedicure.  Over at Delos Dolphins, you’ll find great jewelry that is based on some of the pieces displayed in several Mykonos museums.  If you’re looking for something for your home, Seaside Creative Furniture is a great place to buy homemade furniture, ceramics, and pieces of art.  The smaller, locally run art galleries and little stores are also great places to find locally created souvenirs.  The prices are usually less than you’d find at the more commercial places, and you know you’re getting an authentic Mykonos souvenir.

As far as nightlife goes, Mykonos has several bars that serve the gay community.

If you don’t want to have someone pressing their body against yours on the loud, dark dance floor, you might enjoy Porta Bar a bit more than the dancing at Pierro’s.  Porta is almost a little hole in the wall, and it’s located off of a backstreet that’s not that easy to find.  However, once you make your way to this great bar, you’re sure to enjoy yourself.  Many different types of people hang out at Porta—it’s not an exclusive gay bar, but it is an incredibly fun place to spend the evening.

Of course, there are many other bars and clubs on Mykonos that are a lot of fun to visit.  While they may not cater exclusively to the gay community, you can still have a lot of fun at them.  As mentioned above, Mykonos is a very open society where no one will make you uncomfortable because of your sexuality, and gay and lesbian couples are accepted just about anywhere on the island.

No matter what you’ve come to Mykonos to do—surf, relax on the beach, shop, or enjoy the nightlife—you’ll find a great gay community that is ready to welcome you and your partner with open arms.  Enjoy a great vacation on Mykonos!

Mykonos Exclusive helps you plan out every step of your trip, starting with transportation.  You can reach Mykonos via ferry from the mainland or several nearby islands, but you can also catch a flight to Mykonos. You can also rent bicycles, walk to some areas, or visit a car rent business if you want to really explore the island.  To get from beach to beach (or to your beach hotel), you can also take a water taxi boat.

Accommodations are also on the list.  The website lists several amazing hotels.  Some of them are on the beach, while others are located more in a cosmopolitan area.  You don’t necessarily have to get a hotel room, either.  We  also offer rental rooms, villas, studios, and more.  There’s not a hotel on Mykonos that isn’t connected to the bus route or to the water taxi route, so you can get from your accommodation to many of the major tourist areas.  Some of the resorts found on Mykonos were designed with modern architecture in mind, but some of them feature authentic Mykonian architecture or blend authentic with modern to create an interesting, unique design.

Now that you have your travel and your accommodations situated, you can browse Mykonos Exclusive for information on restaurants.  These include elegant, sit down restaurants where you’ll be served in style and smaller, beach bars and restaurants that allow you to eat lunch right on the shore with the blue waves in the background!   Many of the restaurants and taverna, small local eateries, offer traditional Mykonos food, Greek food, and other choices.  The larger hotels and resorts have their own amazing four and five star restaurants, while you’ll find small, locally run restaurants all over Mykonos.

You’ll also find a good amount of information about some of Mykonos’s most popular beaches.  These beaches include the famous Paradise and Super Paradise along with other, somewhat less known beaches like Kapari, Agrari, and Agios Sostis.  Some of these beaches are developed and offer water sports, restaurants, and more, while others are in a more natural state.  Once you’ve learned about the amazing beaches, you can check out the site’s guide to shopping.  If you’re on Mykonos and don’t do a bit of shopping, you’re missing out.  You can find some great souvenirs as well as some amazing deals.
